Day 8. Prairie Du Chein Wis to Galena IL. 75 miles

Grant County Wisconsin....the biggest County in Wisconsin.....A beautiful hilly county along the river in the middle of dairyland.....beautiful farms, cattle, hay, corn.....known for:  The House on the Rock....The Grotto in Dickeyville...the local brewery in Petosi...the end of the Wisconsin River....Route 61 the main road to Madison from Iowa....part of my old sales territory...cheeses curds.

Another great day for biking. I decided I would count hills today. I made it to 74 - a couple went on for about 2 miles each. By 10 o'clock I hadn't seen anywhere to stop until the OPEN sign with a big picture of an ice cream cone next to it. I pulled off and parked. A couple of people walking down the sidewalk asked if I needed anything and I said ice cream. It kind of threw the guy for a loop, but he finally got out that anytime was a good time for that. I ended up having a great conversation with them and the owner of the shop. A little later and a sandwich and chocolate milk from Larry, made the last few miles of hills and farmland go quickly.
